I love this short film. Extremely well done.
This is the winner of the Nokia Shorts competition 2011 - shot entirely on the Nokia N8 mobile phone.
Splitscreen: A Love Story (by JW Griffiths)
Love it. But I think the final bit would have looked less peculiar if you had them facing each other, looking into the middle, rather than facing the viewer. The split could be maintained with the camera facing opposite directions, so looking at both their right/left sides of the face so you’re seeing opposite sides of the bridge.

I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s like they got small kids to re-enact Battle Royale. o_O
Incidentally, I recommend that you watch this movie. I’m not usually into that genre of film, but it was just so absurdly awesome, it’s kind of hard to resist.
It has Takeshi Kitano (I mean, come on, it’s Takeshi) and also Kô Shibasaki whom I loved in Go, and which is one of my favourite Japanese films along with Quill (Saddest. Movie. Ever. (TM)).

Fascinating. I’m curious about how it looks. Perhaps like that Last Three Minutes short they linked which was also filmed with a Canon 5D Mark II in 24p. As long as it isn’t Blair Witchy.

Forbidden Images (higher resolution) (via CineGraphic) (via @sandysandy)
The short was made as a comment on how current censorship will look to future generations. It is a series of scenes cut from old films because they didn’t “meet the local moral standards of the time”.
I can understand why some of these scenes were cut. There was a time when bare ankles and shoulders were considered risque and suggestive. For some, it still is.
Silhouettes teased the imagination and eroticism was about what you weren’t able to see as much as it was what you did.
But aside from the query about whether future generations will think what we censor is ridiculous, I have to wonder if it can also be construed as a comment on how crass and overt modern society has become.

Unassuming long takes in movies (via kottke)
Jim Emerson collects eight of his favorite long takes that you might not have noticed before (no Touch of Evil, The Player, or Children of Men).
If you study all eight of these shots, you should learn enough to pass any film class.
