I finished reading the 9th Sookie Stackhouse book today (I started reading book 1 last Thursday, I think).
Overall I actually think the writing could be a bit stronger. Some of the plots are a little contrived[1]. But I like the southern turns of phrase, that’s cute. And I really like the universe, mythology and character interactions.
Eric the vampire did come across as a little chibi-esque in places though, which is a bit strange for someone who started their life as a Viking. But I like the way Sookie’s relationships developed with the Shreveport vampires.
I also like that True Blood deviates from the books. Some of the changes make the general storyline a bit stronger. But it will be interesting to see what other arcs are borrowed from the books and how they translate them to screen.
Anyway, *waits for more True Blood*
[1] Her general style reminds me of how I used to write my short stories and (incomplete) novellas when I was in high-school. Except without the porn.
