Wandered out with Chris and Mike last night to take photos[1].  They had their DSLRs and I brought out the Speed Graphic with the darkslides I loaded a couple months ago[2].
I thought setting up 4x5 shots during the day was an exercise, night shots when you can’t see is another thing entirely[3].
Tripod and darkslides in hand, I was poking around the camera, setting up a shot of the memorial with the cityscape in the background.  After some minutes I had it looking what I thought was reasonable in the ground glass.  I’ve just put in the darkslide in and look up, and there’s a silhouette of a guy in my shot.  Like Right. In. My. Shot.
And he’s set up his tripod and DSLR aimed in a completely different direction and I’m not sure how long he’s going to be and it took me ages to get it set up right and all I need is a few seconds more to expose my slide.  And he’s still in my shot.
Mike wanders over and I gesticulate wildly at the obstruction.  And I tell him how long it has taken me to try to set this up.  And we both laugh.  And then we wait for this guy to finish what he’s doing and exit my shot.
A couple minutes later I ask Mike where Chris is.  Mike says he wandered off in some arbitrary opposite direction.  Suspicious, I take a deeper squint at my obstruction.  Just then it turns around and calls out “Hey guys!”
And I yell “Chris! You’re in my fucking shot!”.
[1] That photo up there was taken with my iPhone.
[2] 1. Load film. Check. 2. Take photos. Check. 3. Develop film… Yeah I’ll try for this weekend. I suspect they are underexposed, but that’s part of the fun yes?
[3] Not that it’s going to stop me going out with them again in a couple weeks. This time I might bring my Holga too.
