Data Mining

This just fascinates me.

On Google+, some random person from India just added me to their circles.  I haven’t added them back, but I checked out who else is in their circles and each of the ones I know is a person who has worked at my previous place of employment. 100% hit rate.

I don’t have a circle dedicated to people from ex-work. And circles aren’t public anyway.  My public profile is completely empty bar my name.  The email address I use for the account also isn’t associated with ex-work that I am aware of.   Which means someone has gone and done some serious data mining to find intersections of multiple people’s friends lists.

Even so, given how small Perth is (and how much ex-work’s past and current employees get around), I’m surprised there hasn’t been an overlap with mutual friends outside the ex-work circle.

I suppose there could be a very simple explanation this very specific targeting of adds, but at the moment targeted data mining seems to be the most logical one.
